Malay traditional houses are built from timber which is easily get from tropical forest. It is also easily available from the tropical forest are bamboo, rattan and tree roots. Normally the houses have pitched roofs, verandah in front, high ceilings and lots of opening for ventilation purposes. These characteristics are particularly common in all Malay houses throughout the Peninsular Malaysia. The shapes and sizes differ from state to state depending on influences. Langkawi is in the state of Kedah. The architecture has been influenced by the Dutch. It is clearly translated in the shape of roofs structure which is similar to Dutch man hat.
